How does the Iceland itinerary planner work?

  1. Enter where you start and end (e.g. Keflavík airport, Reykjavík, Akureyri), how many days you have, and whether you travel by rental car or join guided tours.
  2. Tell us what you would like to see (waterfalls, glaciers, black sand beaches, hot springs) and what to avoid.
  3. The planner picks the sights, calculates real driving distances and times, splits the days within your daily limits, and suggests places to stay, lunch stops and tours – with a map.

Popular Iceland routes

  • Golden Circle – Þingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss in one day from Reykjavík.
  • South Coast – Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, Reynisfjara and Vík, and in 2–3 days on to Jökulsárlón.
  • Reykjavík as a base – sleep in the same place every night and explore the Reykjanes peninsula, Borgarfjörður and the capital by day.
  • Ring Road – all the way around the island on Route 1 in 7–14 days, via Mývatn, Akureyri and the East Fjords.

Frequently asked questions

How many days do I need for Iceland?

For Reykjavík, the Golden Circle and the South Coast 4–5 days are enough. The full Ring Road (about 1,350 km) needs at least 7, ideally 10–14 days. The planner builds plans from 1 to 14 days.

Can I plan a trip with Reykjavík as a base?

Yes. Open the day-by-day settings and enter Reykjavík as the overnight place for each day: the planner then makes a different day trip every day (Golden Circle, Reykjanes, Borgarfjörður, the city itself) within your daily driving limit.

Can I travel in Iceland without a car?

Yes. Choose "Local travel agency" as the travel method: every day is a guided tour with pickup from your accommodation, chosen to match your wishes.

How accurate are the driving times?

Distances and driving times come from a real route planner (openrouteservice, OpenStreetMap data) with about 10% extra time for photo stops. Always check road conditions on umferdin.is and the weather on vedur.is before you set off.

Is the Iceland trip planner free?

Yes, planning is free and needs no registration. You can print or copy the finished itinerary.
